These three volumes entitled Advances in Hypersonics contain the Proceedings of the Second and Third Joint US/Europe Short Course in Hypersonics which took place in Colorado Springs and Aachen. The Second Course was organized at the US Air Force Academy, USA in January and the Third Course at Aachen, Germany in October This successful book gives an introduction to the basics of aerothermodynamics, as applied in particular to winged re-entry vehicles and airbreathing hypersonic cruise and acceleration vehicles. The book gives a review of the issues of transport of momentum, energy and mass, real-gas effects as well as inviscid and viscous flow phenomena.

The Army appears to have inadvertently publicized potential plans for a brand-new hypersonic weapon system in a post on the official Flickr page . Raytheon is investing in hypersonic weapons, as the Pentagon focuses more on fielding superfast missiles, and at the same time is developing ways to counter them.

The U.S. is joining Russia and China in developing an entirely new type of weapon system: hypersonic weapons. Unlike ballistic missiles, which travel even faster, hypersonics.

With Russia recently announcing its Avangard hypersonic glide vehicle operational, we understand the challenge as the U.S. races to field these advanced hypersonic missile systems.

In the coming decade, what we know as speed and distance is expected to change entirely. Hypersonic technology may see people travelling from Delhi to New York faster than it takes to cover a 50 km road trip around Delhi NCR today.
